On March 14, 2024, a delegation representing GSAFETY Global met with Angola’s President João Lourenço, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The delegation is led by esteemed figures such as Fan Weicheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary Dean of the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University and Chief Scientist of GSAFETY, Li Longqing, President of GSAFETY and Zhang Maolei, General Manager of GSAFETY Global.  Six senior Angolan officials attended the meeting, including Minister of Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano, Minister of Finance Vera Daves, Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges, and Presidential Secretary for Diplomatic Affairs and International Cooperation Víctor Lima.

During the meeting, Academician Fan Weicheng briefed the President on the technological achievements of the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University and highlighted GSAFETY Global’s involvement in significant projects in Angola. He outlined the expansive prospects and diverse avenues for future cooperation between the two parties. Additionally, he extended an invitation to the President to visit Tsinghua University in the future.

From an investment cooperation perspective, President Li Longqing presented his vision to the President. He emphasized the importance of continuous advancement in talent cultivation and industrial localization strategies through initiatives such as industrial implementation, government projects, and external financing. This strategy aims to support Angola in enhancing employment opportunities, promoting diversified economic development, and consequently improving the living standards and economic strength of its people.

President Lourenço expressed his appreciation for GSAFETY Global’s development in Angola, particularly highlighting their involvement in the CISP project. He suggested exploring new project collaboration opportunities in the future. Additionally, he praised the outstanding reputation and achievements of Tsinghua University domestically and internationally, expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit.

This meeting not only strengthened the cooperation between GSAFETY Global and the Angolan government but also further solidified Tsinghua University’s reputation and status on the international stage. The exchange and collaboration between the two parties will contribute to the advancement of bilateral relations, injecting new vitality into the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Following the meeting, Academician Fan Weicheng accepted interviews with several media outlets, including the Angolan Public Television and Angola News Agency. He reiterated that Tsinghua University and GSAFETY Global are committed to deepening cooperation with the Angolan government in talent cultivation, investment and financing, and advanced scientific and technological exchanges. This collaboration aims to uphold social security and stability, and better utilize China’s advanced experiences and technologies to serve the people of Angola.
