On the afternoon of January 15, 2024, Mr. Alfredo Pacheco, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, led a delegation of 20 representatives to visit the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University. They were accompanied by Ambassador Garabito from the Dominican Embassy in China and officials from the National People's Congress. During the visit, Secretary Shen Shifei of Tsinghua University met with the the distinguished guests.

Secretary Shen Shifei warmly welcomed the delegation from the Dominican Embassy and provided an overview of the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University, highlighting its foundational information and research achievements. Secretary Shen Shifei emphasized the longstanding and robust cooperation between the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University and the Dominican Republic. Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Dominican Republic in May 2018, a cooperation framework agreement was signed in September of the same year between the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University and the Dominican 911 Center. This led to the establishment of a joint laboratory and collaborative efforts on the design and construction of the 911 Safety Emergency Disposal System project. Throughout the pandemic, both sides maintained their collaborative efforts, demonstrating mutual support and solidarity. Secretary Shen Shifei expressed optimism that that the visit would further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University and the Dominican Republic.
President Pacheco introduced the delegation members from the Dominican Chamber of Deputies and expressed his great honor in visiting Tsinghua University, a globally renowned institution recognized for its remarkable achievements in talent cultivation and scientific research. He also acknowledged Tsinghua University as the alma mater of President Xi Jinping. President Pacheco expressed gratitude to the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University for its commitment to cooperation with the Dominican Republic and its dedicated efforts in the Dominican market. He highlighted the substantial benefits brought by the 911 Center project, which significantly optimized the Dominican Republic's emergency support system and enhanced the ability of Dominican citizens to respond effectively to emergencies across various cities. Looking ahead, President Pacheco anticipated expanded cooperation opportunities, beginning with the 911 project, and envisioned a promising future for collaboration between the two nations.
Ambassador Garabito emphasized that the Dominican Republic places great value on exchanges and scientific research cooperation with Chinese universities. President Pacheco and his delegation's visit to Tsinghua University exemplified this commitment. Looking forward, Ambassador Garabito expressed the hope to see more Dominican students have the opportunity to study at Tsinghua University. Additionally, he welcomed the School of Safety Science at Tsinghua University to apply its research findings more extensively in the Dominican Republic, aiming to further enhance and contribute to the development of Sino-Dominican relations.
